Looking Beyond the Equipment

June 6, 2014

I think sometimes these investigations don’t have all of the information they need. They prefer it that way. What must be considered first and foremost is whether the helmet meets NOCSAE requirements or not. If they do not, then that helmet MUST be discarded. But if the helmet meets NOCSAE requirements, then it is “safe” for use. Then we have to identify costs and how to fund everything. These “4 Star” helmets run as much as $300+ each. But do the schools provide proper medical care? Do the schools provide the proper other equipment? Do the schools provide appropriate education and training with regards to injuries and proper technique? There are many aspects that MUST be addressed. We cannot focus only on the football helmet, but look at the big picture.
