Exercise of the Week: Lunge Matrix

November 7, 2011

New exercise for you this week. We’ll set the TRX aside for this week and give you a set of lunges! This video does it slightly different than the way I teach it, but it’s pretty close. Have fun!

  1. TNT Man Says:

Why is the rear lunge done on an angle instead of straight back?

  2. I consider this to be more of a mobility-type exercise than a strength exercise. Opening up those hips on the back movement really stretches the adductors (groin) and helps to strengthen those same muscles which are often neglected.

I actually open up even more when I do them. My front foot remains facing forward, but then that moving foot is turned around facing backwards.

My athletes have complained about being sore the next day after doing these, but they do notice a difference…
